Booka Win Over Forbidden Fruit Crowd
As the sun continued to shine down on the second day of 2018’s Forbidden Fruit, festival mainstays Booka Brass took to the Original Stage to serve up a heavy dose of boisterous jazz.
Booka, who started out with a strict line-up of brass musicians and lively percussion have been joined by a funky bassist and guitarist.
The line up change proves to be a welcome one on this warm June afternoon, as onlookers sit back on the hill sipping on cool pints, taking in every second of Booka's music.
Having started with a welcome breeziness, they take things up a notch, when the 8 man ensemble breaks into their lively single ‘BBB’. Eager fans make their way to the front to dance.
The band have famously covered R&B classics such as Drake’s ‘Hot Line Bling’ and Beyoncé’s ‘Crazy In Love’, injecting a jazzy twist into these pop classics. They may have made a speciality of them in the past, but in the new Booka creed, it appears, cover songs are a thing of the past. It may reduce the immediacy of their impact, but they go down well, lifting the spirits on a nicely relaxed afternoon.
