Brand New Friend release Lloyd Cole-inspired new single: ‘Nothing Stays The Same’
BRAND NEW FRIEND break into 2020 in style with the release of their new track: ‘Nothing Stays The Same’.
The Northern Irish indie-pop quintet has shared their new single and confirmation of their upcoming EP: A Cure For Living, set to release on 14 February.
The new track, ‘Nothing Stays The Same’ takes inspiration from 80s indie veteran Lloyd Cole in his timeless ‘Jennifer She Said’, exploring what may have happened next for the lovelorn protagonist 'Jennifer'. "Hopefully it all works out for her…” The band muses.
"It's a love song constantly shifting perspective between two people." The group goes on to explain. "It's the sound of two people who love each other deeply but who know they're running out of distance. It's framed in the Botanic area of Belfast, in the old Botanical gardens near Queens University. In the rain, of course."

Their first extended studio collection since their debut album ‘Seatbelts For Aeroplanes’ in 2018, A Cure For Living bursts with energy and exuberance, right in line with the group's trademark pop punch. From the roller coaster clatter of ‘She Always Comes Up Smiling’, to the sugar-coated rush of ‘The Karma Party’, the tender balladry of ‘You Can’t Know Everything, the Castlerock quintet’s new EP is both familiar, and surprising.
Brand New Friend are looking to head back on the road this Winter/Spring with a crop of UK+EIRE headline shows in support of the A Cure For Living EP.
