The folk-rock singer, who is nominated for six awards in the upcoming Grammys ceremony, has co-produced Tanya Tucker's first studio album in ten years.
Brandi Carlile has revealed that she is co-producing country music legend Tanya Tucker's new album, While I'm Living. The project is Tucker's first studio album since 2009's My Turn, and her 25th studio album overall.
Carlile, who is the most nominated woman at this year's Grammy Awards, expressed her excitement about the upcoming album to Variety this week. Describing 60-year-old Tucker as "the most fascinating person in country music right now", Carlile insisted that the new project will have the world asking: "how did we forget about Tanya Tucker?"
Her preparation for working on Tucker's album included speaking to legendary record producer Rick Rubin. Carlile revealed that Rubin "mentored me prior to making this record about how he approached [Johnny] Cash to do something like this.”
Tucker, one of the most prominent recording artists in country music in the '70s and '80s, burst onto the scene with her debut album Delta Dawn when she was only 13 years old. The title track from the album has since become a country classic.
Carlile told Variety that While I'm Living will "remind the world that [Tucker's] influenced a whole corner of country music that no one else has even touched." Carlile lists Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris, Gretchen Wilson, and herself, as the among the many country and folk artists who have been deeply impacted by Tucker's legacy.
