Bren Berry releases new environmentalist anthem 'Knives (Heavy Metal Rain)'
Berry's debut album In Hope Our Stars Align goes public on January 31.
Musician Bren Berry has released his latest single ‘Knives (Heavy Metal Rain)’ in anticipation of his debut album In Hope Our Stars Align.
The melodic track touches on themes of unity in the midst of an impending climate crisis. Written by Berry, his lyricism urges listeners to reflect on how their actions may impact their environment.
“I wrote this song in response to complacent half-measures and cynical greenwashing as the planet is increasingly on fire or underwater," said Berry. "It is also an anthem to hope, the power of activism and positive direct action for the common good.”
Berry took inspiration from a speech by David Attenborough at The UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.
“Is this how our story is going to end? Failing to see the bigger picture in pursuit of short-term goals?” said Attenborough. “We must use this opportunity to create a more equal world, and our motivation should not be fear, but hope.”
Berry and Gavin Glass produced the song in Orphan Studios, while D. James Goodwin mixed and mastered it in his recording studio, The Isokon. The track features an arrangement by Cormac Curran, performed by the Orphan Strings. Danny Anderson was also featured on vocal harmonies.
This release comes months after Berry's last single 'Turn On Your Radio,’ which also addresses the devastation of climate change.
Berry describes his debut album as "as a collection of love letters and protest songs." Listeners can hear the full record on January 31.
