"This song is a big nod to poignant, widescreen, American classics like 'Wichita Lineman', 'Everybody’s Talkin’' and 'Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down'..."
Following the release of his long-awaited debut solo album, In Hope Our Stars Align, Dublin singer-songwriter – and former Revelino guitarist – Bren Berry has returned with a brand new music video for one of the project's stand-out tracks, 'Bullet Proof'.
The video was was shot in Bren's "two favourite pubs in Dublin", The Thomas House and the Hacienda Bar, as well as other notable locations around the city, including Some Neck Guitars on Dean Street.
"This song is a big nod to poignant, widescreen, American classics like 'Wichita Lineman', 'Everybody’s Talkin’' and 'Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down'," Bren has said of 'Bullet Proof. "I would like to think that it is a very romantic song which also has some funny tongue-in-cheek jokes.
"It features a cast of iconic figures – Paul Newman, Frank Sinatra, Phil Lynott, Jimi Hendrix, Brando & McQueen, Johnny Cash, Bruce Lee and the legendary Wrecking Crew," he continues. "It also features booze, landlords, unpaid bills, sex, dancing, tattoos, family, wheels and bullets – all from the viewpoint of a struggling musician who can’t live up to any of the icons in the song but still hopes he is good enough for the woman he loves."
Bren joined forces with in-demand producer Gavin Glass for In Hope Our Stars Align, working at his Orphan Recording Studios in Co. Wexford. Renowned Irish drummer Binzer Brennan also contributed – as did an impressive cast of backing vocalists, including Sack’s Martin McCann, Yvonne Tiernan, Gavin Fox, Rachel Grace, The Frames’ Joe Doyle, Danny Anderson, and The Lost Brothers’ Mark McCausland.
