Brian Dillon of Meltybrains? aka The Line has released a new collaborative record Red Blood Cells and Righteousness.
The new release is a 13 track collaborative work, with features from an impressive cast of the best and brightest in Irish music; including Limerick rapper God Knows, Loah, Sorcha Richardson, Dan Fox (Gilla Band), Sarah Corcoran (Pillow Queens) and Caoi de Barra (Wyvern Lingo), amongst others.
A sprawling tapestry of deeply atmospheric soundscapes, Red Blood Cells and Righteousness echoes the gossamer instrumentation of dream-pop acts such as Beach House and Cocteau Twins ; whilst also channelling the fuzz-driven sound of Irish shoegaze giants My Bloody Valentine and the harshness of Skunk Anansie. Likewise, the album's ruminative songwriting pays homage to indie-folk royalty such as Phoebe Bridgers, Villagers and Big Thief.
A musician, sound artist and member of Dublin-based five-piece Meltybrains?, Red Blood Cells and Righteousness marks Dillon's sophomore release under his pseudonym The Line, following his 2022 EP Cavan and 2021's Anti-Matter.
The title for the album came from Julian Gough’s novel Connect, in which the writer discusses the concept that human beings are like blood cells - moving autonomously through a much larger ecosystem, serving a much larger power without ever realising that’s what they are doing.

A communally created release; the record's intention is for its creative process to reflect the themes and content of the songs, emphasising the importance of human community, connection and collaboration, over the pursuit of personal gain and adulation.
In regards to the newly released album, Brian said: “This is an album built on personal relationships and communication, dedicated to playing a small but significant role as a part of a world so much bigger than any of us are willing to admit.
"After all, maybe we’re all just blood cells, swimming through the veins of the earth, serving a much higher function..."
In celebration of the newly released record, there will be an accompanying Irish launch tour, with intimate dates in Dublin, Cork and Galway.
