The Belfast singer-songwriter and former touring friend of Mitchell’s will release his 18th solo album on November 7 – his second tribute to the legendary Canadian songstress’ beloved songs.
Multi-platinum recording artist Brian Kennedy has remained a fixture in the Irish music scene since the late ‘80s, when he rose to prominence as part of Van Morrison’s band. The Irish singer-songwriter is now gearing up to release his 18th solo album A Love Letter to Joni - Volume 2, the follow-up to Kennedy’s 2013 tribute to the best of Joni Mitchell’s discography.
The album is set for release on November 7, coinciding with Mitchell’s 80th birthday. A lifelong fan of Mitchell’s, who he once toured the U.S. with alongside Van Morrison and Bob Dylan in the ‘90s, Kennedy does justice to the iconic Canadian singer-songwriter on his unique versions of her beloved songs.
A Love Letter to Joni Mitchell - Volume 1 released ten years ago to golden praise, featuring a few Mitchell classics and some unexpected selections. The Volume 2 tracklist features Mitchell’s most beloved songs, such as ‘Big Yellow Taxi,’ ‘Woodstock’ and ‘Both Sides Now.’
Of the project, Kennedy shares, “I couldn’t be prouder of this album, it’s a testament to an artist like Joni who continues to inspire against all odds.”

One of Ireland’s most celebrated vocal talents, Kennedy – originally from Belfast – is a multi-platinum recording artist. He has appeared as the featured vocalist in Riverdance on Broadway, performed at George Best’s funeral, featured as a coach on the first series of The Voice of Ireland, and represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, to name a few items off his repertoire.
Kennedy’s charming vocals and knack for interpretative songwriting are two of the reasons behind his long-lasting legacy.
Brian Kennedy will play a one-off Dublin gig at St Ann’s Church on December 16, where fans can purchase a signed physical copy of the album. Don’t miss the rare chance to see Kennedy live in an intimate Christmas setting, with a limited number of tickets available now via Eventbrite.
