Introducing the mixtape, 'mouthy' seamlessly melds live acoustic instruments with captivating soundscapes, an approach that evades easy characterization. Listen below.
Dublin-based collective Bricknasty have announced their return with their latest single, 'mouthy', which serves as an exciting teaser of what's to come from their forthcoming mixtape, XONGZ አስቀያሚ ጡብ, announced today and set for release on 2nd October via FAMM.
Following on from the introspective ruminations which underpinnned their 2023 EP INA CRUELER, this mixtape offers a "collection of freewheeling experiments" that encapsulate the band's journey through grief, recovery and a sweeping "embrace of the unknown". Many of these formative experiences transpired while touring their first project, and are thus poured into this 9 track collection.
'mouthy' introduces the mixtape with a seamless blend of live acoustics and captivating soundscapes, an approach that evades easy characterization. Depth and texture are expressed through the ambient electronics making shadow puppets of harmonies in the background; the end result is psychedelic dreamscape.
The accompanying music video, directed by Connor Clarke, is a fitting complement to the song with it's surreal visuals and madcap antics.

Spearheaded by Ballymun native, frontman and guitarist Fatboy, Bricknasty is the product of a group raised in the internet age and grounded in the spirit of community. Following a chance encounter on Soundcloud between Fatboy and producer Cillian McCauley, the pair's online relationship blossomed into a fully fledged band with the introduction of Dara Abdurahman (bass), Korey Thomas (drums) and Louis Younge (sax/keys).
Their unique, and often peerless, sound encompasses everything from the slant blends of '00s RnB, to a tumbling flow, sticky falsettos and anything else that catches their fancy. Bricknasty is defined by their raw energy and visually striking aesthetic, setting them starkly apart from their analogue artists.
Following their recent performances supporting Coldplay across four dates at Croke Park with Aby Coulibaly and All Points East alongside renowned acts like Loyle Carner, André 3000, Nas, and Ezra Collective, Bricknasty will be touring the UK and EU later this year, playing their biggest live shows to date, closing out the tour with a show at The Academy on 19th December. Tickets go on sale this Friday 6 September via Ticketmaster.
