The single features bass from Flea.
Bright Eyes have released a new song titled 'Forced Convalescence', their second single since breaking a nine-year hiatus last month. It features Flea on bass, Jon Theodore (of the Mars Volta and Queens of the Stone Age) on drums and percussion and Kip Skitter on percussion.
The featured artists' influences are strong, bringing a big rock sound to Bright Eyes' often low-key sound. Layered instrumentals combine with a choir to create a powerful, uplifting tone. Conor Oberst's lyrics are raw and optimistic. His trademark existential confusion is still there, but this time he's singing about recovery and the beauty of life as he emerges out of the shadows. The single shows an exciting new direction for the band, only making it harder to wait for the new music to come.
'Forced Convalescence' will be featured on the band's upcoming album, set to be released later this year. No further details regarding the new record have been shared, but the band promised via Twitter that it will be released this year "no matter what" despite touring pans being derailed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
