The upcoming album will be their first release since The People's Key in 2011.
Bright Eyes have released their first single in 9 years, titled 'Persona Non Grata', and confirmed that a new album is on the way. The beloved emo band's musical comeback has been imminent, as they also recently announced a slew of tour dates for the first time in nearly a decade, including their first Dublin show in 18 years.
'Persona Non Grata' is a somber, powerful track that showcases frontman Conor Oberst's trademark poetic lyrics. The instrumental feels bare, yet also fully fleshed out as the instruments layer to create a massive bagpipe-tinged climax.
In an official statement that accompanied the track, the band addressed the uncertainty and fair the world faces as the coronavirus pandemic spreads and nations enter lockdown mode. "Strange days indeed," they wrote. "Just wanted to send our love and solidarity to everyone out there feeling alone, frightened and isolated. You are not alone. We are all in this together."
They also confirmed that "no matter what", a new album will be released this year. Touring plans are currently being reassessed as concerts across the globe face cancellation and postponement.
