Belfast’s only jazz festival, Brilliant Corners, is set to return for the seventh consecutive year, running from March 2 through March 9, 2019.
Each year Belfast plays host to sundry events, each one terrific in its own right. For the seventh year running, the extensively celebrated jazz festival Brilliant Corners will revisit Northern Ireland’s capital for a week of local, national and international talent. It’s safe to say that this year’s incredible lineup will not disappoint.
The festival will occur across a variety of venues in Belfast, beginning at SARC's sonic lab with American pianist, Craig Taborn kicking off the week. Following Taborn, the Ulster Youth Jazz Orchestra will showcase the very best upcoming players in the region.
Shabaka Hutchings is set to visit with his stargazing psychedelic outfit The Comet is Coming, inviting the audience on a cosmic journey.
Japanese born and Ireland based Izumi Kimura explores the cracks between composed and improvised music, and the Scott Flanigan Trio with Ant Law will keep things rolling with a new commission.
Brilliant Corners will also welcome back the 13-piece boundary pushing – and completely bonkers – Brian Irvine Ensemble for another life-affirming night of music.

The utterly brilliant Liane Carroll performs with her trio, and the Pauli Lyytinen Magnetia Orkesteri pays a visit all the way from Finland.
Trip-hop informed jazz heavyweights Get The Blessing close this year’s festival as they bring their irresistible brew of Bristolian beats to Belfast.
If you have been before, you’ll know what to expect; amazing, surprising, life-changing music. If you haven’t, you’ll come along and experience Belfast’s only jazz festival in all its bijou glory!
