Britney announced the news on Sunday via Instagram.
Only Britney Spears could make headlines on the night of the VMAs and not even be in attendance, when she announced her engagement to her boyfriend Sam Asghari with an exuberant Instagram post on Sunday.
The news comes less than a week after her father Jamie filed a petition to end her conservatorship after 13 years.
Britney shared the news via an Instagram video post showing her winking, kissing a smiling Asghari on the cheek and answering "yes!" when he asks if she likes the ring.

Asghari posted on his own Instagram showing the two kissing with Britney holding her ring finger to the camera.
The news was confirmed by Asghari’s manager Brandon Cohen, who told The Hollywood Reporter that "the couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them."
The ring was designed by New York City jeweler Roman Malayev and is engraved with the word 'lioness' on the band, Asghari's nickname for Britney.
The couple met in 2016, when Asghari starred in the popstars "Slumber Party" music video. Spears had a brief Vegas marriage to childhood friend Jason Alexander that was annulled 55 hours later, and has two children with her second ex-husband, rapper Kevin Federline.
Britney told a judge she wanted to marry Asghari and have a baby with him during her public testimony in June this year, and detailed how she had been forbidden from removing her IUD to have more children, get married or even drive herself.

Legally Britney can get married, but the conservatorship must approve it as with other major life decisions.
The multi-award winning pop star has been under the conservatorship since 2008, after what Rolling Stone once referred to as "the most public downfall of any star in history".
She has been fighting to have her father removed from her conservatorship, or have it ended entirely, since 2019. While her father is currently still in control of her estate, Britney has recently won a number of victories, such as the right to appoint her own legal counsel.
The next hearing date for her case is September 29th.
