There were jubilant scenes outside the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles on Friday, when the announcement came that Britney Spears was released from her 13 year long conservatorship.
Judge Brenda Penny ruled that "the conservatorship of the person and estate of Britney Jean Spears is no longer required" and "hereby terminated." The conservatorship was terminated without any further psychological assessments, as Judge Penney pointed out that it had technically been voluntary. For the first time since 2008, the pop super star can make her own medical decisions, drive her car, spend her money or choose to have children.
Britney, who was not present during the 40 minute hearing on November 12th, posted a video of the crowds outside the courthouse with a joyous caption: "I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever …" and using the hashtag #FreedBritney, in tribute to the fan-led #FreeBritney movement that has championed her cause for years.

She also thanked her lawyer Mathew Rosengart, who she was allowed to appoint as her counsel in July, in another emotional post on Monday, where she thanked him and said he "truly turned my life around. I’m so happy my lawyer … came into my life when he did…"
Rosengart praised his client while speaking to reporters after the hearing Friday. "I'm so proud of her," He said. "I thank her for her courage and poise and power. I thank her for our relationship."
The now former conservator of Britney's multi million dollar estate, California-based public accountant John Zabel, retain certain powers as "a safety net", according to Rosengart. He will also continue to work on settling a number of financial concerns from the case that are still ongoing.
Tri Star Sports & Entertainment Group, a firm run by Louise M. Taylor that provides accounting and financial services, served as the estate’s business manager and worked closely with Jamie Spears during the time when he was sole conservator of his daughter's person and estate.
