The Canadian rock band cancelled all of their UK and European dates due to illness.
Broken Social Scene announced this afternoon that they would be cancelling their upcoming European and UK tour, including a show in Dublin at Vicar Street.
“We want to get back overseas again, but have been medically advised to avoid the physical strains touring and must honour that process towards health,” said the band in a tweet. “So much love to our fans. Our deepest apologies.”
The band has been touring for two years and started to take a toll on founder and bandleader Kevin Drew, according to a statement released by the band. Their successful touring stint follows the release of their acclaimed album, Hug of Thunder, released after a five-year hiatus.

"I love every minute I'm allowed to connect with people and make memories, but I've been medically advised to avoid the physical strains touring and focus and getting my health back on point,” Drew said in a statement. “We want to get back overseas again, and create the best experience possible but unfortunately I can’t do that at this moment in time. Rest has been forced upon me and I have to honour this process."
Earlier this year, Broken Social Scene released two volumes of a new EP titled Let’s Try The After. This year marks the 20th anniversary of founding members Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning as a band.
