Irish nominees Lankum, CMAT and Jazzy lost out in their respective categories.
Bruce Springsteen was the top honouree at the 2024 Ivor Novello awards last night, taking home an Academy fellowship – the first international artist to receive the accolade.
Paul McCartney presented him with the award with a tongue in cheek speech: “I couldn’t think of a more fitting recipient,” he said. “Except maybe Bob Dylan. Or Paul Simon, or Billy Joel, or Beyoncé, or Taylor Swift. The list goes on … He’s known as the American working man, but he admits he’s never worked a day in his life.” He reminisced about the pair’s performance together on Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage in 2022, calling Springsteen “a lovely boy”.
However Irish hopefuls CMAT and Lankum were unsuccessful at last night's award show as they both lost out in the Best album category to Youssef Dayes who took home the prize for his album Black Classical Music.
Fellow Irish nominee Jazzy also failed to take home the award for PRS for Music Most Performed Work, losing out to Central Cee for his single 'SPRINTER'
