The livestream is set to be broadcast later this week.
A star-studded line-up has been revealed for a special live-streamed event celebrating what would have been Joe Strummer's 68th birthday. Going live this Friday, August 21, at 8pm Irish time, A Song For Joe: Celebrating the Life of Joe Strummer, will feature never-before-seen live footage of the late Clash frontman, alongside special messages and performances from the legendary likes of Bruce Springsteen, Lucinda Williams, Bob Weir, The Pogues' Spider Stacy, The Strokes' Albert Hammond Jr., Matt Dillon, Beto O'Rourke, Tom Morello and more.
As well as celebrating Strummer's life, the free livestream will also be collecting donations to benefit Save Our Stages, helping independent venues impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“To see so many musicians and artists come forward to honour Joe is really touching,” his wife Lucinda Tait revealed in a statement about the event. “Community was always important to him. Whether it was playing music with friends, organising all night campfires, or hijacking festivals, Joe was always focused on bringing people together. Even though we can't all be in the same room together, I cannot think of a better way for us all to feel united. Joe would have loved this.”
