At the moment, acts like The Darkness are ruling not only the rock purists’ realm but also the mainstream with their unashamed and exuberant cock-rock antics. Some time ago, the foppish, hand-wringing Longview would have been a welcome addition to the musical vista, but alas, they have missed the boo-hoo boat by a good few months. The insurmountable fact remains that, while Longview probably have serious designs on Elbow’s crown, they come across as a slightly low-calorie version of Gene. Which says it all, really.
