The Altered Hours' Cathal MacGabhann will perform with Fontaines D.C. at their Australian, New Zealand and Japan shows as Carlos O'Connell readies himself for fatherhood.
Carlos O'Connell, guitarist of Irish rockers Fontaines D.C., is due to become a dad, he announced on Instagram today.
While the life update is resulting in his absence from Australian, New Zealand and Japan dates, Cathal MacGabhann of Cork band The Altered Hours will be filling in for the musician.
"I will not be attending these shows with Fontaines due to the little less imminent, yet a little more unpredictable, birth of my first child," he wrote today, taking over the Instagram page for the warm announcement.
"I am truly in awe at the idea of new life, this little one has become the reason why I do anything since I found out about her. In saying it all, I am more gutted than I expected to be at the prospect of missing these shows. I can't wait for the day I get to go to that end of the world with my boys."
He added that Cathal MacGabhann has "put in all the work I stretched out over a period of 5 years into one stressful Christmas and he's come out sounding better than any Hoover could've done. I've full faith in this man's talent as a player and passion for music."

"Hi all it’s Carlos al habla. This is an announcement like the ones they do at the airport when you’re about to miss your flight, so please do read carefully," the guitarist captioned the post. "I love ye all, and I miss my boys."
"Ps: please abstain yourself from making jokes such as 'reckon the baby’ll be born with pink hair?' Or 'will Cathal MacGabhann be dying his hair pink for these shows?' All our mas are well ahead of ye. With more love than I’ve had before, C."
Congratulations to Carlos on the news! Check out his post in full below.
