caroline have announced their upcoming sophomore album caroline 2, set for release on May 30 via Rough Trade Records.

The London post-rock band's new project is billed as "a record of extraordinary scope – where the organic and the artificial, the harsh and the beautiful, the pristine and the hazy all clash and combine."

caroline 2 was produced by founding members Casper Hughes, Jasper Llewellyn, and Mike O’Malley, who form the band’s core and lead the songwriting.

“One of (the album's) fundamental themes is the idea of different things happening at once, things that are very different from each other but also simultaneous,” said Llewellyn.

The London post-rock band have also released the project's lead single, 'Tell me I never knew that' featuring Caroline Polachek, alongside a music video self-shot by both artists.

"We sort of joked that we’d ask (Polachek) to sing it but didn’t think it’d actually be on the cards," said the band on their latest track, "until about a year later when we sent her the half-finished song and she was up for it!"

"Caroline was amazing," they added. "We were still recording at about 1.30am when we decided to call it, but there was no indication that Caroline was the slightest bit tired or that she had lost any momentum in her ability to sing, even though she’d been singing for about 6 hours. It was an inspiring thing to witness!"

caroline have also announced a UK tour in May/June, as well as shows in Europe and Japan in September. No Irish date has been disclosed.

Founded in 2017 by Casper Hughes, Jasper Llewellyn and Mike O’Malley, caroline ended up expanding into an eight-piece with the help of trumpeter and bassist Freddy Wordsworth, violinists Magdalena McLean and Oliver Hamilton, percussionist Hugh Aynsley and flutist, clarinetist and saxophonist Alex McKenzie.

They released their acclaimed self-titled debut LP in February of 2022.
