The project marks the dance singer's third EP and her first as an independent artist
After taking a brief hiatus from releasing music in 2023, Carrie Baxter has returned with her latest EP Keep Swimming.
Originally from Waterford and now based in London, the singer has built her reputation on a unique blend of jazz, soul, and R&B, marked by smooth vocals and personal lyricism.
Her debut EP, Placebo (2020), and the follow-up, What Now (2021), cemented her reputation as an exciting voice in the Irish and UK music scenes – as did a mega collaboration with UK DJ NOTION, with the pair’s dance bop ‘FOUND LOVE’ boasting almost 50million streams on Spotify alone.
Covering themes of love, religion, self-awareness, and connection, the creation of Keep Swimming came after the Baxter experienced burnout in 2022, after which she made the decision to go independent.
Baxter cites a period of reflection which “allowed her to explore her vulnerabilities as an artist” for helping her delve deeper into her songwriting – evident in the groove-laden ‘In The Morning’.

"The song is about meeting someone that you connect with instantly,” says Baxter. That connection of energy that you feel maybe you’ve known before without explanation.
“I needed the sound to ignite a certain amount of sexiness but also be super chilled at the same time. Once we got the chords right, everything else flowed effortlessly. The track is a tribute to the influence of soul icons like Erykah Badu and Jill Scott and draws inspiration from the rich sounds of 90s neo-soul.”
