In aid of her own My Lovely Horse Rescue Charity, Cathy Davey and a host of heads perform this Friday in Whelan's
Want to throw a few shapes and do some good at the same time? Of course you do! The place to be then is Whelan's this Friday, for the puntastically titled My Lovely Neigh tivity Gig. The never less than funky Love Tailors are on house band duty, playing behind Cathy herself, as well as Cry Monster Cry, Roisin O, and CC Brez. And all for only €15! They're practically helping you out!
Hot Press spoke to Tiffany Quinn, who has been volunteering with the charity for the last six years. “In a small charity like this there’s no money, and it was the height of the horse crisis in Ireland when I joined. 6,000 equines per year were being impounded and shot around those years, at a cost of €1,000 of taxpayers money per horse I might add. So we were stretched to our absolute limits with horses, ponies and donkeys coming in from everywhere - starving, injured, very sick. And we are still completely inundated. People have been great – there are about 50 volunteers now. We all have full-time jobs, kids, and busy lives, but we’re all united by the same goal: to help the suffering creatures, rehabilitate them and get them good homes. Winter is very challenging. When there is no grass the abandoned and forgotten ones starve in hidden fields. Or they break out in search of food and are then impounded and killed by the local Council.”
"Fundraising is a huge challenge – we’re a not-for-profit voluntary organisation, doing the work that government agencies can’t or won’t do. The gig on Friday night in Whelan’s main room is a coming together of musicians to raise money and awareness of Ireland’s hidden horses."
It's a bit of a family affair for Tiffany, her brother Dec, formerly of Republic of Loose, is one of the Love Tailors. "It’ll be a great opportunity for people to hear some of the cream of Irish singer-songwriter talent while having a bit of craic, and forgive the cliché – giving something back."
