The Philadephia-based contemporary Celtic band Runa are to play a one-off concert in Dublin in October 2009.
The Listening Room will presents Rúna live in concert at the Unitarian Church, Stephens Green, Dublin on Saturday October 31, 2009 at 8pm. Admission is €10 at the door. Drawing on the diverse musical backgrounds of its members, Runa bring a contemporary approach to traditional and modern Celtic material from Ireland, Scotland, Shetland Islands, Canada, and the United States. The line-up comprises vocalist Shannon Lambert-Ryan, guitarist Fionán de Barra and percussionist Cheryl Prashker. Lambert-Ryan is from Philadelphia and has sung with acts of the calibre of Moya Brennan. Dublin guitarist de Barra, has played with Clannad, and Fiddlers’ Bid, while Canadian percussionist Cheryl Prashker has done time with Full Frontal Folk and Pat Wictor.
Fionán and Shannon are returning to Ireland after performing together at a festival in St. Petersburg with Moya Brennan.
The Runa visit to Ireland comes in the wake of their new album Jealousy, a compilation of traditional songs from Ireland and Britain, plus more contemporary tunes with quirky arrangements.
