A limited edition coin is launching next week marking 70 years since the legendary frontman's birth.
The late Phil Lynott will be honoured next week with a special coin issued by Central Bank. Only 3,000 coins will be distributed for the limited release, which celebrates 70 years since the musician was born.
The coin will be made available to the public on Wednesday, 27 November, when President Michael D. Higgins will unveil the first coin at Lynott's former school, St. Kevin's College in Crumlin. The president's address will be preceded by a medley of Lynott and Thin Lizzy songs performed by students of the school.
Lynott played bass and sang lead vocals for Dublin's Thin Lizzy from 1969 until his untimely death in 1986. Tributes to the late musician have been made throughout the years since his death, including a statue of Lynott erected just off Grafton Street in 2005.

Lynott's coin is part of a three-year series called "Modern Irish Musicians." Last year a coin was released to honour Rory Gallagher, and a Luke Kelly coin is set to release in 2020.
The silver-proof coins will run at a face value of €15 and cost €65 each. They will be available for purchase after their release next week at the Central Bank of Ireland website.
