Irish singer and producer Chameleon has announced his incoming summer EP Call Me Twice Pt. 1, due out July 11th, with the advanced release of the brand new single ‘I Never Knew You Well’.

A synth-led, alternative R&B number, the track highlights Chameleon’s unique ability to transcend genre and produce music that breathes energy, conjuring deep emotion through raw, haunting vocals.

“Everybody’s got secrets. We’re all living a double life,” Chameleon says. “‘I Never Knew You Well’ puts our hidden desires, fears and anxieties under the microscope. This song has been in the works for nearly three years, and I kept coming back to it for its awkwardness and its freakish groove as its beaten production limps onward to the noise of the kick/snare conversation.

“To me, this song represents the tired, yet determined cry of someone at the end of their tether. I was heavily inspired by the production of James Blake, the vocal delivery of Thom Yorke and the theatrical extravagance of Childish Gambino in the Redbone era. This song has let me explore a slightly more experimental and electronic sound which I hope to incorporate more in the future”.

A talented singer and multi-instrumentalist, Chameleon produces and records all of his own work, infusing each track with an eclectic and unpredictable sound that is uniquely his own. After winning the widely coveted title of A New Local Hero during Irish Music Month 2021, the young artist exploded onto the scene with his Rubyworks-backed debut single ‘Show me Where Your Heart Is’, which received critical acclaim across the country.

‘I Never Knew You Well’ comes hot on the heels of Chameleon’s recent April release ‘The Ransom’, an abrasive yet dazzling offering and the first single to arise from his upcoming summer EP.

“This EP marks the first step towards a sound I’ve been searching for for years,” Chameleon explains. “I am, by nature, a perfectionist. My creativity rarely matches up to my taste. And so, when I occasionally find myself in a position where I am satisfied with something I have made, I’m certain I’ll cherish it forever.

“I adore Call Me Twice Pt. 1 It is bold, boisterous, often obnoxious, and it collects and exhibits the dirty and the ugly of who I am at my core. I hope people hear the city in this project. The noise, the chaos, the frustration. I hope they hear the longing to be somewhere else, someone else. This is the start of the story.”

In addition to the exciting releases, Chameleon has announced his upcoming return to the live circuit, with a headline show at the Workman’s Cellar in Dublin on July 17th. Tickets are available here from 10 am on June 3rd.
