Dublin producer and songwriter Chameleon has shared his first original song in two years, ‘The Ransom’.
Characterised by warm acoustic guitar plucks, dense bass and layered vocal harmonies, the cinematic track is accompanied by a Sin City-inspired music video, directed by Iarla McKeown.
“A lot of the music that is to come out this year contains a significant amount of frustration and bitterness that I was desperate to release,” says Chameleon.
“What you might hear as abrasiveness and spite in the lyrics and instrumentation, is really a fragile coating over a deeper pain. I wanted to explore the perspective of someone who has been hurt in a relationship - who is having their freedom held for Ransom - but who cannot be fully exempt from blame or fault.”

An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Chameleon self-produces and records all of his own material, citing a varicoloured list of artists, such as Bon Iver, James Blake and Radiohead, as his main influences. Having achieved a bachelor’s degree in film studies from Trinity College, the Dun Laoghaire native similarly takes inspiration from his love of movies and scores.
The 2022 A New Local Hero Winner has also toured with and collaborated with a string of acclaimed local acts, including 49th & Main and KhakiKid – whom he joined forces with on the recent viral success ‘Who’s That Girl.’
