Irish traditional musicians put on charity gig to show their solidarity with the people of Japan
Musicians of Ireland in Solidarity with Japan, a special fundraising concert of traditional Irish music, will take place in the Button Factory tonight. The line-up features some of Ireland's top traditional music acts including Altan, Dervish, Kila, T with the Maggies, Liam O'Maonlai, Donal Lunny, Paddy Glackin and Harry Bradley. The concert will be streamed online so the people of Japan can watch the gig live. All of the groups and musicians taking part have a strong fan base in Japan and are performing tonight as a show of solidarity. According to Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan and T with the Maggies, “All of us in the trad world wanted to do something after the years of support the Japanese have given to both Altan and the other bands. This is our small way of showing that they are in our thoughts. We guarantee a great night on May 10th and you can be sure that a few surprise guests will show up also!”
The gig starts at 8pm and costs €20. Tickets are available from [link]www.tickets.ie[/link]. All proceeds go to Aid Japan and the Japanese Red Cross.
