The new single entered the TikTok new music chart at number 7.
Chasing Abbey are back, with a brand new single that is catapulting across the airwaves. 'Lately' entered the TikTok Dance Chart at no. 6, and was number one on the Irish Homegrown Charts the week of its release. Hot Press caught up with the trio – who are veritable viral sensations – after the release of 'Lately'.
How have you been faring during the pandemic?
It's been very rough, especially for artistry. We're delighted to be back, even a little. Our industry is all about being together and dancing together, catching a vibe. It doesn't really have the same affect as a socially distant gig, but I hope we can get back soon.
Talk to us about the inspiration for this tune.
We wrote it 13-14 months ago now. The inspiration, I suppose, is just the music we vibe to ourselves. After The Odyssey project, we were feeling like we wanted to bring it back to our roots, back to what we were used to. So that's where it started, and we got the song 90% together, and went over to Alan Sampson in London, to get the last 10% out of the tune, and we caught a vibe there. And just kind of – it's hard to describe – but it just ended up where it is now.

Right. I've been talking a lot recently about the evolution of TikTok in the industry. Most artists I talk to are quite nervous about it, but it's obviously been a really big success for you. What's your favourite thing about the platform? Why do you enjoy releasing music there?
For us, we've always been very open and we love new and fresh things. We really love when something cool comes along, and we think TikTok is so cool. We love it. When we see the potential of TikTok and how lit it is and how different it is, I think we just gravitate toward that anyway. It's a no brainer for us. It's really fun. There's a different connection with your fanbase on TikTok, it feels like its more intimate. It's very free, anything can go on TikTok, you never know what you're going to come across. And people can use your song in so many different ways, they can dance to it, vibe to it, I think that's really cool.
