Coldplay's 10th studio album Moon Music is set to release this week
Chris Martin has stated that Coldplay will only create 12 studio albums. This announcement comes with the release of their 10th studio album later this week.
Martin said in an interview about the new album Moon Music that “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real – promise.”
The interview was a part of the Zane Lowe show for Apple music.

Martin added that "less is more" explaining that "there’s only eight Harry Potters, there’s only 12-and-a-half Beatles albums."

He continues, "having that limit means that the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great."
Discussing the possible direction of the group, the singer says “if we do something together after that, creatively, beyond touring, then it will be something different, or it’ll be a side thing, or it’ll be a compilation of things we hadn’t finished.”
It's clear the star doesn't want to taint the success of his band, with successful album releases for A Rush Of Blood To The Head (2002), X&Y (2005) Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends (2008), Mylo Xyloto (2011) and Ghost Stories (2014).
The band's most commercially successful album Parachutes (2000) sold over 13 million copies, and their most recent album Music Of The Spheres reached over 2 billion streams.
Coldplay also recently performed in Dublin for 4 consecutive sold-out shows in Croke park.
Moon Music comes out Friday on streaming platforms.
