The Fleetwood Mac keyboardist passed away at the end of 2022 "following a short illness," which was reported by her family.
The cause of Christine McVie's death was just revealed, following the rock legend's passing in November 2022.
New information, first obtained by US outlet The Blast, details that the 'Everywhere' singer suffered from an ischemic stroke which prevented her brain tissue from receiving the oxygen and nutrients that it needed. This came after her diagnosis with a “metastatic malignancy of unknown primary origin,” meaning that cancer cells had spread through her body from an unknown place of origin.
The updated report further notes that the artist was suffering from “atrial fibrillation,” an irregular and often very rapid heart caused by abnormal electrical impulses in the atria. This condition increases the risk of strokes in patients. McVie's sudden passing at 79 devastated fans globally.
The singer, songwriter, and keyboardist joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 after the departure of founding member Peter Green. By that time, McVie had already contributed uncredited piano and backing vocals to the group's fourth studio album Kiln House.

McVie played with the band for decades, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside the group in 1998.
"There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie,” said the band in an official statement. “She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.”
Even as recently as 2021, there were rumours of a possible comeback for the iconic collective, but founding member Mick Fleetwood professed a reunion is now "unthinkable."
"I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris,” affirmed the drummer. “I’d say we’re done."
