Ahead of the release of his new studio album, Flying Into Mystery (out November 19), legendary singer-songwriter Christy Moore has returned with a new single, 'Clock Winds Down'. The track arrives alongside a music video, featuring artwork by renowned Irish illustrator David Rooney, which was animated by Simone Heineck.
The single was written by Jim Page, who wrote 'Hiroshima Nagasaki Russian Roulette', famously recorded by Moving Hearts. 'Clock Winds Down' addresses the impact of climate change, with the lyrics featuring a shout-out to Greta Thunberg.
'The imagery grew out of the gatefold album cover which has an ‘above the arctic circle’ feel to it, reflecting some of the song themes on the album," Rooney explains. "Working with Christy over the last few months has been such a pleasure.
"Arriving in Dublin from East Galway to go to art college in 1979, the first gigs I went to were Christy’s in places like The Meeting Place and later at the Friday night Moving Hearts residencies in The Baggot Inn. Given this long history as a fan, having him visit the studio, when nobody had been there for over a year, was a little surreal and utterly wonderful."
Rooney previously worked with animator Simone Heineck on animated promo for 'The Ice Men' stamps for An Post.

Featuring twelve songs, Flying into Mystery is a collection that Christy has brought to life through his distinctive writing and unique interpretation of other artists' songs.
"It has been a very different album recording process this time around," he comments. "Since 1969 I have been involved in recording but never with a total absence of live performance. Since March 2020 all my focus has been on this album. Once more I’ve been privileged to receive some great songs which kept me well occupied. I produced with Jim Higgins and David Meade engineered the project. There are songs from Ricky Lynch, Paul Doran, Mick Hanly, Wally Page, Tom Tuohy, Gary Moore, Jim Page and Bob Dylan. These sit side by side with traditional songs and a couple of my own offerings. Thanks for listening…"
