The Antrim-native recorded the second single from his upcoming EP, Happiness, in a room in Brighton.
Award winning singer-songwriter Ciaran Lavery has released his brand new single, 'I Love The Inevitability of Death' today (July 7). The Antrim-native is taking this opportunity to confront one of life's only certainties – its end.
"A while back I spoke to a friend that was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He was fully aware of his timeline, and talked about how it had changed his outlook on both life and death.
"One thing he told me was the sense of relief that he didn’t have to concern himself with the daily stresses and general unwanted shite any longer. His focus shifted toward spending time with the ones he loved, that was it. He talked about everything becoming simpler. Knowing this made me feel my own sense of calm, firstly for him, and then for myself. It struck me that there is something deeply beautiful about accepting what is beyond our control in life, and death,” says Lavery, explaining the inspiration behind the song.
Recorded DIY-style in a bedroom in Brighton, this new single represents the artist's second collaboration with the Brighton-based two piece, Soft Sports. The lo-fi, acoustic-guitar-driven tone reflects this low-key, DIY recording. Lavery's vocals blend with instrumentation that slowly grows and gains momentum as the song goes on, creating an intimate and ultimately uplifting listen.

This is the second single Lavery has released from his upcoming EP Happiness, a body of work that delves into the pursuit of happiness and what it means to get there. 'First Bad Man' was the first single Lavery released from this project as an ode to companionship.
Lavery has always been keen to break from preconceptions of what it means to be an Irish sing-songwriter and takes inspiration from artists like Mitski, Bjork, Thom Yorke, and The Beastie Boys.
