Irish band Clannad have announced the release of the 40th anniversary edition of their record Legend Extended, out October 25.

The album served as the soundtrack to the acclaimed 1980s TV series Robin of Sherwood, based on the legend of Robin Hood and sung entirely in English. The soundtrack cemented Clannad’s reputation as bespoke writers of music for film and television.

The album’s anniversary edition includes the original remastered version of the record as well as 11 tracks, which were thought lost for over decade, but were recently located in an ITV archive vault.

Clannad’s Pól Brennan said of the release: “After looking extensively for the ‘lost tapes’ for more than 10 years ….and after another trawl last year they were surprisingly discovered in an ITV archive. I had great fun listening and reviewing the music and bringing this collection of tracks back to life.”

Clannad was formed in 1970 by siblings Moya, Ciarán and Pól Brennan and their uncles Noel and Pádraig Duggan (who passed away in 2022 and 2016 respectively), and for a short time later became a six-piece with the addition of Enya Brennan, who then went on to have her own successful solo career. Over the course of their career, they have been awarded with Ivor Novello Awards, BAFTAs and GRAMMYs.

Legend Extended - 40th Anniversary Edition will be available as a 6-pannelled digipak 2CD and a 2LP set. Both formats come with a 16-page booklet featuring photos and liner notes by Daryl Easlea - available on request.
