Richie Hawtin has dared to venture to the dark side of his psyche and, as inner space trips go, this is as far out as it gets.
Although previous Plastikman albums have all succeeded in setting an eerie, unsettling tone, ‘Closer’ goes further. Eschewing the dance floor, Plastikman’s trademark 303s and doubled up rhythms are nonetheless present, while Richie Hawtin’s vocals intone sinister, masochistic messages. In an age when techno is clinical and anonymous, Richie Hawtin has dared to venture to the dark side of his psyche and, as inner space trips go, this is as far out as it gets.
