'Where Are Your Kids Tonight' from CMAT will arrive on July 12th.
Irish country-pop star CMAT has announced a new collaborative single with John Grant, 'Where Are Your Kids Tonight?'.
The single will follow the first two tasters from her forthcoming second album Crazymad, For Me (out in October 13th via AWAL), 'Whatever's Inconvenient' and 'Have Fun!'.
"I wrote this song when I realised I had turned into my mother," CMAT wrote in a note, posted to Twitter. "It's kind of inspired by this image I had of entering a waterfall-like portal from an Irish kids' show called 'Foreign Exchange', where I'm looking at 1988 and 2023 at the exact same time every time I look at myself in the mirror. To quote a TikTok comment I saw recently, 'The human experience is absolutely fucking wild'.
"I always knew this song was going to be a duet, and when I was writing it I said to myself, 'It would be so good to get someone *like* John Grant on this' because a) his body of lyrics reflect my own life and experience more closely than anyone working today and b) I never thought we would get him. But I got him! And he is so sweet. His performance really adds the layer of profundity that I was looking for to carry off the two-ages staring at each other angle. Love him so much."

CMAT's potential new concept album Crazymad, For Me - which follows on from her 2022 Choice Music Prize winning debut If My Wife Knew I'd Be Dead - apparently alludes to time travel and future selves, but using self-deprecating humour to poke at her previous relationships, the cost of living crisis, among other things.
Last month it was announced that John Grant, one of the most interesting and respected singer-songwriters of recent decades, will headline a show in the Knocknarea Arena at ATU Sligo on Friday November 3rd, 2023.
Grant’s 2021 album Boy From Michigan received across-the-board praise, topping the vinyl charts and entering into the UK Album Chart Top 10. The last 13 years have been an astonishing era, since he released a belated debut solo album Queen Of Denmark after a prolonged exile from the music industry.
Earlier this year, the musician collaborated with Creep Show on a new album, titled Yawning Abyss.
