Filmed in Kos, Greece by Collective Films; CMAT's new video for 'Whatever's Inconvenient' is the perfect welcome to summer - and her second album campaign.
Dublin-born global pop star™ CMAT has kickstarted her second album campaign with infectious new tune 'Whatever's Inconvenient', which was released last night via AWAL Recordings.
The dramatic self-examination traces her knack for throwing herself into the most inconvenient relationships (or situationships, by the sounds of things) with people she knows won't give her the time of day.
"I can always smell it coming / Like the grease upon your mullet / I knew you'd ruin me the minute I had a dream where you were in it / Just a dentist, you and I," the song starts, a driving drum beat swirling together with soaring strings and layered harmonies for the addictive chorus.
"I'd make you torso of the week if I still bought Hit Magazine, and you'd pay me not money but praise / 'Cause I message you all the time, if you're bored you might reply..."
The string-laden new single landed with a Greece-filmed music video, directed by Greg Purcell of Collective Films and complete with a donkey on the beach.

“Whatever’s Inconvenient is a bit of a mission statement for me (and for my second album)," CMAT explains of the new single, which premiered on BBC Radio 1 last night with Clara Amfo.
"It’s a big question mark over why I am so unendingly bad at entering and maintaining romantic relationships. I don’t really answer the question here, because I can’t and probably never will, but it’s always helpful to acknowledge your own uselessness (I find).”
It marks the first single to be taken from the soon-to-be-announced second full-length project.
'Whatever’s Inconvenient' was recorded and produced with Bonny Light Horseman’s Josh Kaufman (Cassandra Jenkins, Anais Mitchell) in upstate New York in the US, with additional production and mix by Matias Tellez (Girl in Red) at his studio in Bergen, Norway. It’s accompanied by artwork from London-based artist Seatton - whose work will feature across the new album campaign.
It follows January’s one-off single ‘Mayday’ and last year’s debut LP, If My Wife New I’d Be Dead - which recently won the prestigious Choice Music Prize for album of the year.
After a brief live hiatus (save for support slots with Wet Leg in the Royal Albert Hall, and the Teskey Brothers across Europe), CMAT has announced an initial run of festival shows for the summer, including Otherside (IE); Rock Werchter (BE); Kalorama (PT); Isle of Wight; Neighbourhood; Blue Dot; Y Not?; Camp Bestival (all UK) with more to be announced.
