This month marks the fifth anniversary of Daniel Johnston's death
CMAT is set to play a Sofa Session for Jo Whiley tonight on BBC Radio 2. The performance will feature "new music and a previously unheard cover" – which the Irish star has revealed will be her "favourite song by Daniel Johnston".
CMAT is the latest in a string of notable Irish acts to perform on the popular show this summer – with Fontaines D.C. playing a rendition of 'Let's Get Lost', and The Mary Wallopers' covering The Undertones' 'My Perfect Cousin'.
Daniel Johnston died five years ago this month. To mark his anniversary, Hot Press revisited a classic interview with the beloved, and deeply influential, singer-songwriter – available to read in full here.

Back in January 2020, CMAT was part of the line-up of a Dublin gig, hosted by Jerry Fish, that paid tribute to the late artist – performing alongside the likes of Glen Hansard, Junior Brother, Mundy, MayKay, and more.
This summer saw CMAT sell out her biggest Irish headline show to date, at Dublin's Fairview Park. Her latest album, 2023's Crazymad, For Me, debuted at No.1 on the Irish Albums Chart, and scored nominations for the Mercury Prize, the Ivor Novello Awards, and the Choice Music Prize. She was also nominated for International Artist Of The Year at this year's BRIT Awards, and BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2024.
Jo Whiley's show on BBC Radio 2 kicks off at 7.30pm this evening.
