The Music Of The Spheres tour will be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.
After committing in 2019 to not return to live touring until it could be done sustainably, Coldplay has finally announced their 2022 environmentally-friendly world tour.
The band have pledged to cut direct emissions by 50% compared to their most recent tour, use solar installations and kinetic energy at every venue to power a mobile rechargeable show battery, and to plant a tree for every tickets sold.
Each venue will also be given a “sustainability rider” of requests, there will be free drinking water at each venue to cut down on single-use plastic, and the group have entered a partnership with climate change experts at Imperial College London’s Grantham Institute to measure the tour’s impact.
“Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together,” the band explain.
“At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward.

We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far. If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”
Later this month on October 22, the band will be the first act to play the newly renamed Climate Pledge Arena, which is the first zero-carbon arena in the world and located in Seattle, Washington.
The tour was announced on the eve of the release of their ninth studio album, Music Of The Spheres, out tomorrow, October 15th. The band will see support from H.E.R. and London Grammar and will begin in Costa Rica in March.
