They're the big dates on the industry calender - we take a look at music conventions
MIDEM is one of the premier music industry extravaganzas and takes place in Cannes, France from 19th - 23rd January 2002, with the surrounding days being taken up by registration and exhibitors preparing for the tradeshow. The combination of exhibition area and live music provides copious opportunities for wheeler-dealing. Midem really is one of the best places to arrange international licensing, publishing and distribution deals. With over 300 stands manned by 2000 companies from 75 countries, the Tradeshow is definitively where it's at. But don't miss out! Avoid disappointments and inconvenience by arranging a stand as soon as possible. Check out the website www.midem.com to register online, find out about important deadlines, and even take a manual tour if it's your first time.

IN THE CITY is always one of the liveliest and most hotly-contested band competitions in the UK. However, even for those not taking part in the unsigned bands showdown, the convention comprises seminars, showcases and plenty of chances to meet and perform in front of influential music biz and media types. The location varies from year to year, with the festival usually occurring in the month of September. This year's convention took place in The Lowry Hotel, Manchester and was a massive success with bands such as Johnny Panic and The Needles apart of the line-up. There's word of 2003's festival taking place in Dublin, giving all those Irish acts a chance to get their music out there. Don't hesitate to contact In The City, the sooner you do, the better chance you have taking part!
