The Wolfe Tones are donating the proceeds from their 1972 single to the Peter McVerry Trust.
Lewis Capaldi has claimed the first Official Irish Chart Double of the new decade – topping the Official Irish Singles and Albums Charts at the same time. The Scottish singer is the first act to achieve the feat since Ariana Grande in February 2019.
His single 'Before You Go' secures a seventh week at the top of the Official Irish Singles Chart, while 2019’s biggest album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent claims a seventh non-consecutive week at No.1 on the Official Irish Albums Chart – marking its first time at No.1 since October. The achievement follows in the wake of yesterday’s announcement from IRMA and the Official Charts Company that Capaldi’s debut was the best-selling album in Ireland of 2019.
The Wolfe Tones also have plenty to celebrate, with 'Come Out Ye Black and Tans' entering the Top 50 at No.33. The renewed popularity of the 1972 single comes in the wake of the since-cancelled plans for a controversial commemoration of the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC). All proceeds from downloads of the single will be donated to homelessness charity the Peter McVerry Trust.
The Wolfe Tones thank you for your support of the campaign to stop the RIC/Black n Tans commemoration. We will be donating the proceeds of the success you made by downloading “Come out ye Black and Tans” to the Peter McVerry Trust who do great work to aid the homeless, Brian W. pic.twitter.com/qITpAAxsr0
