The concert film Queen Rock Montreal is making its global streaming premiere on Disney+ with IMAX Enhanced sound
Disney+ has announced the global streaming premiere of Queen Rock Montreal, set for May 15. The film shows Queen in their prime in their legendary 1981 performance. It's also the first-ever concert film on Disney+ with IMAX Enhanced sound, powered by DTS.
Originally filmed in November 1981, Queen Rock Montreal documented the performances of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon over two nights at Montreal’s Forum. These performances, staged specifically for filming, have been meticulously restored by Mercury Studios, with executive production credits to Geoff Kempin, Alice Webb, Jim Beach, and Matilda Beach for Queen Films.
This release follows the film's record-breaking success as the biggest IMAX exclusive event release ever. Alongside the premiere of Queen Rock Montreal, Disney+ has released other concert and music events, including Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, Elton John: Farewell from Dodger Stadium, Black Is King: A Film by Beyoncé, and The Beatles: Get Back.
With Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour becoming the second highest-grossing concert film ever at $262M worldwide, there has been a clear increased interest and investment in movies that showcase live musical performances.
