Having recently emigrated to Australia, Irish alt-R&B songsmith Conor Hamilton-Long is already making waves with stellar new single ‘By The Way’.
You moved from Ireland to Australia in 2023. How has that worked out so far?
It’s been a really interesting one to navigate. Back home I’ve got a solid network around me, whereas coming here, I’ve had to start from scratch. It’s been challenging but fun. This is my first time moving away from home for longer than three months, and my new surroundings have helped to create a different perspective for me musically.
How are you finding the music scene down under?
It’s absolutely thriving, especially in Melbourne. There are gigs on multiple times a week, all year round. The level of talent here is insane and a big motivator for me to keep pushing myself.
What inspired your latest single ‘By The Way’?
A couple of friends were in sticky situationships where they felt they were giving more than was reciprocated. It started off as a draft concept but once I started writing, the story just worked.
Any new releases on the horizon?
I’m currently in the writing process for an EP, but I’ve got another couple of singles coming out over the next while!
