The contemporary folk singer-songwriter returns to Ireland next month with the release of her sophomore album, HOME. Off the back of a UK tour, Barfoot will embark on an Irish leg of dates, kicking it all off at Whelan's Dublin, on November 29.
East Cork-based singer-songwriter Lewis Barfoot prepares to release her second album, HOME, the follow-up to her 2021 debut Glenaphuca. Following the release, Barfoot sets off on an Irish tour, taking to stages in Dublin, Kerry and Cork.
Off the back of her UK tour last month, which garnered Barfoot radio play on BBC, the contemporary folk musician gears up to release her second album on November 17. HOME was recorded at Wavefield Studios and SoundSound Studios in Cork. Mixed by Giles Barrett (Lightship 95) and mastered by Sam Proctor (Lismore Mastering).
On the album, Barfoot explores her Irish heritage and delves into the haunting narratives of her Cork-born female relatives. HOME sheds light on a dark past of institutional incarceration, delicately transformed by Lewis into a collection of beautiful songs. Through her evocative lyrics and soul-stirring vocals, Barfoot heals the wounds of her past and inspires future generations to live fearlessly.
The album sees Barfoot join forces with Kerry Andrew (aka You Are Wolf), who provides enchanting backing vocals on two songs. Additionally, Ben See lent his arranging talents to create a choral arrangement that brings a breathtaking finale to the album.
Despite the intimate, deeply personal themes on HOME, it promises to be an uplifting listen, with a rhythm section introduced as part of her folk palette. Her perceptive lyricism and melting vocals have acquired the Cork singer-songwriter comparisons to Kate Rusby, Sandy Denny, Máire Brennan, and young Joni Mitchell – a credit to Barfoot’s storytelling capabilities.
