The line-up for the 26th Beamish Cork Folk Festival has been announced and it’s promising to be a very exciting affair.
Over three hundred artists will descend on the city for the event, which take place between the first two weekends in September, beginning on September 2 and ending on Sep 11.
And it’s all sponsored by one the native stout breweries, so there could be a few free pints of the black stuff going too.
Carlos Nunez, the Galician master piper, will be performing at the Cork Opera House, while Hungarian act, Márta Sebestyén and Muzsikás, will be taking to the stage at the Everyman Palace.
The visit of La Bottine Souriante, a 12-piece band from Quebec, will also be one of the main events.
However, if you’d prefer to check out the homegrown folkies, there’ll be a strong Irish contingent in attendence as well. Altan, Liam O’Flynn & the Piper’s Call Band, Freddie White, North Cregg, Seán Tyrrell, Alias Ron Kavana, Bronagh Gallagher, Ger Wolfe & the New Skylarks and The Abbey Céilí Band will all be performing in various venues.
The excitement doesn’t end there, though, as a ceili to end all ceilis has been planned as a special part of this year’s festival. 10 bands will set the pace for 10,000 dancers who’ll be attempting to set a world record on South Mall. We can picture the mayham already. For ticket prices and further details, visit www.corkfolkfestival.com or call (087) 2759311 and (021) 4279609.
