Contemporary music collective Crash Ensemble have announced a tour across Ireland, during which they'll be performing the ground-breaking Phillip Glass composition Glassworks.
The ensemble will perform the work live in Letterkenny on October 4, Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray on October 6, and Lime Tree Theatre in Limerick on October 15.
Originally conceived as a studio recording, Glassworks was released in 1982 on CBS Records, whose roster boasted the likes of Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen. The LP and cassette notably featured distinct mixes tailored for home listening and Walkman users.

The piece will be performed by: Susan Doyle (Flute), Kenneth Edge (Soprano Saxophone), Nick Roth (Soprano/Tenor Saxophone), Ruth McGinley (Solo Keyboard), Máire Carroll (Keyboard), Kate Ellis (Keyboard), and Gemma Doherty (Keyboard/Vocals).
Led by cellist and Artistic Director Kate Ellis and Principal Conductor Ryan McAdams, Crash Ensemble perform a range of contemporary classical music, as well as touring and organising festivals.
“Glassworks is one of those works that will always be a very special piece to play,” says Ellis. “It’s full of beauty and joy and something that I’m so glad we now have the opportunity to bring to people across the country.”
