Today's Track of the Day comes courtesy of the young Dubliner.
It's been eventful for teenager Curtis Walsh in his fledgling career so far. Having quickly made a name for himself with a string of local shows and supporting slots, the Clondalkin native's debut single 'Full Recovery' was released to widespread acclaim earlier this year, having amassed over 2.5 million streams to date. The song represented a milestone in the singer-songwriter's emergent career, as it opened him up to a far wider audience having been added to several thousand playlists, as well as being supported on the likes of BBC Radio 2, Amazing Radio and a host of prominent Irish stations.
Displaying a maturity beyond his years, 'Full Recovery' demonstrated Walsh's ability to craft snappy and melodic pop hooks with meaningful subject matter, and left expectations high for what was next.
In the shape of follow-up single 'Perfect Rain' - released today with an accompanying music video - Walsh has proved that his debut wasn't a one-off and appears to have struck gold again with an emotive effort that tackles the complexity of relationships in adolescence.
Speaking on the track, Curtis Walsh said; "Perfect Rain is a love song I wrote for someone who meant a lot to me at the time. A relationship came about almost by chance, and without me realising that it might turn out to be something really good. It wasn't planned….just like on a sunny day, if someone asked you what you least wanted, you'd say “rain” but then when it came , it was refreshing and actually just what you needed. Like a Perfect Rain."
Walsh has grown a solid fan base through the live circuit, and has built upon entering competitions and performing at local gigs in his early days by going on to supporting the likes of The Academic and The Riptide Movement. More recently, last month he received an invitation to perform at Gold Dust and Sofar Sounds in London. He'll be keeping himself busy this month too as he is the special guest support act for Omar Apollo at his London and Amsterdam shows, as well as his headliner at The Academy 2 on the 23rd.
