Despite his young age, D. Cullen has been making his mark on the Irish music scene for a decade.
25-year-old singer-songwriter D. Cullen (full name Darragh Cullen) has dropped a ray of sunshine in the form of 'Rainbow Weather' to offer a brighter outlook on Ireland's current circumstances.
The Dublin multi-instrumentalist wanted the track to peep out from behind the many dark curtains of 2020.
Written in a dressing room in 10 minutes by the singer and Boo Hewerdine, it sums up the current mood with a strangely poignant resonance.
"It's about taking the sweet things from the bittersweet moments in life...focussing on the rainbow after the rain has poured down and trying to find pleasure in small things when uncertainty surrounds you," Cullen muses.
Hewerdine has written with the likes of Sia, KD Lang, Duke Special, David McAlmont and Eddi Reader, so is no stranger to the craft.

“I met him at a songwriting camp I was running and was immediately struck by his writing skills and have with him ever since," Cullen says of their writing relationship.
"As well as being a great writer, he has fantastic taste and a real depth of knowledge."
The recording was handed over to New-Wave producer and engineer Roger Bechirian (Elvis Costello, The Undertones, Squeeze and Bell X1), who worked some magic to create a punchy pop tune.
“Rainbow Weather was an exciting song to work on,” Bechirian commented.
“For me it evokes memories of ELO, Supertramp, even The Beatles, but with a great modern twist. D. Cullen is definitely doing something a bit special.”
‘Rainbow Weather’ is the follow-up to 2019 releases ‘Alright’ and 'The Rising Tide'.
D. Cullen performed 'Alright' on The Late Late Show last year, and the track quickly became one of the most played songs on RTE Radio One.

The artist then closed out the year with brooding, string-laden song ‘The Rising Tide’.
After releasing his first album at the tender age of fifteen, he was named Male Solo Artist of the Year 2011 by Jackie Hayden of Hot Press.
He later joined Dublin quartet The New 52, who released their debut album Let Me Sleep back in 2016.
