The D1 Recordings label’s website – www.dlrecordings.com – now has audio previews of imminent D1 releases, including the new album from NOST [aka David Donohoe] which is his second collection and D1’s 30th release. You’ll also find previews of new EPs from Americhord and Five Green Circle. Meanwhile, the new D1 sister label – D1ASPORA – launches soon having just secured worldwide distribution with Detroit company Submerge… Agnelli & Nelson’s ‘Holding Onto Nothing’ single narrowly missed out on the UK top 40 after shops were left without stock for three days in the first week of release… Dalto’s awesome ‘Psycho’ single surfaces on promo (on new UK hard dance label BHS) this fortnight …
To coincide with the 10th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death this month, The Dirty Funker – aka Paul Glasby and Harry Love – release a limited edition house remix of ‘Lithium’. Hard house fans should note it’s not Paul Glazby of Vicious Circle fame but it is Harry Love of Baby Doll fame… 2FM DJ Mister Spring – currently working on Liquid Wheel’s second album – has a hilarious deconstruction of the recent Sunday World “drugs at Point rave” three page exposé on his www.misterspring.net site. Hot albums out this fortnight include The Youngsters’ The Army Of 1-0 (lush melodic electro-tech on F Comm), Mad Villain’s Madvillainy (crucial hip-hop from Madlib and MF Doom on Stones Throw), Automato’s Automato (funky and soulful hip-hop and rock fusions on Capitol) and Dual Control’s Left Or Right (stunning debut on Grand Central that includes the singles ‘Boogie Down Feature’ and ‘Stoned Mason’). Compilations to snap up include Definitive Jux Presents III (from the label of the same name and featuring hip-hop heavyweights like EL-P and Aesop Rock), Groovy Tunes From An Even Groovier Label (with Transglobal Underground, Asian Dub Foundation and a string of other acclaimed acts on the State Of The Nation stamp), The Unnecessary History Of Doctor Rockit (on Accidental and including rare music from Matthew Herbert’s alter-ego Doctor Rockit) and Soulfuric In The House (cool house on Defected, mixed by Brian Tappert and John Julius Knight)…
The North’s High On Life crew is heading to Galway’s leading venue, @ the Radisson, with the launch of its new monthly event Confusion on April 23rd. Rok Da House creator Tall Paul headlines along with Irish trance masters Agnelli & Nelson. Making his Galway debut is Welsh trance DJ L.E.D., while local hero Martin Kirrane and the long serving west coast DJ Gary C are also on the bill. A second room at @ the Radisson will host Spin FM jock Johnny Moy, who will be showcasing his ‘eclectic sessions’ with the aid of acclaimed live percussionist Mark Logan from The Disconauts. Tickets for Confusion are available now from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide. It’s the first event of its kind in Galway for many moons, so interest is high …
Undertracks is a new club just opened on Fridays at The Vaults in Dublin. Resident DJs are Jon Hussey and Phil Boyle… Jurassic 5 collaborator Percy P plays Crawdaddy in Dublin on April 22nd, to promote his long awaited debut album, Perseverance on Stonesthrow Records… “The concept is to create the first DJ mix you can actually see.” So say the MTV Mash crew, who make their Irish debut at Redbox in Dublin on April 23… Bristol drum and bass don Roni Size, of Reprazent fame, plays The Empire in Belfast on Easter Monday. Incidentally, another jungle king – DJ Hype – plays TBMC in Dublin on April 17… Conor G joins Nigel H at Absynth in Dublin on April 17th… Dutch technofunk producer Legowelt plays Electric City in Dublin on April 29th… Looking farther ahead, Senor Coconut and his Orchestra play The Village in Dublin on July 29…
Jay Pidgeon and The Vinyl Warrior play Hillstreet in Mohill in County Leitrim this Saturday (April 10th), with Mister Spring returning to the club on April 24th alongside Dean Sherry and Barry Dempsey… Another Easter Saturday bash looking hot is The Boogaloo at Black Box in Galway. Tickets are selling fast, and DJs are the regular local crew Aran MacMahon, Cian O Ciabhain and Cyril Briscoe… And finally, this weekend sees the first Temple Theatre reunion party. Running on Easter Sunday at slick suburban club Il Mondo in Ranelagh in Dublin from 9pm, Pressure, The Banana Boys, Darren Flynn and John Kerrigan are among the DJs appearing…THE BEAT GOES ON!
