Damien Dempsey and Carrie Baxter's performances for Van Morrison's 75th birthday celebration are going live tonight.
Following spectacular performances for 'Rave On, Van Morrison' last night, we're bringing you another special evening of back-to-back Van covers – with Damien Dempsey performing 'Tupelo Honey', followed by Carrie Baxter performing 'Out In The Cold Again'.
Over the course of the YouTube event, celebrating Van Morrison's 75th birthday, you can expect even more renditions of his remarkable songs from some of the most iconic names in the country – including President Michael D. Higgins with Bill Whelan, Hozier, Sinéad O'Connor, Bob Geldof, Glen Hansard and Damien Rice, to name just a few.
Across his remarkable career, Damien Dempsey has forged a reputation as one of the country's most beloved artists – with 2020 marking his 20th year of releasing albums. His most recent album, 2018's Union, saw the soulful singer-songwriter showcasing new songs and re-imagined classics, through collaborations with Finbar Furey, John Grant, Kate Tempest, Maverick Sabre, Lisa O'Neill and more. Following his iconic run of Vicar Street gigs in December, he's set to play the Iveagh Gardens on July 10, 2021.
Following the release of her highly anticipated debut EP Placebo earlier this year, Waterford jazz/soul artist Carrie Baxter has rapidly established herself as a serious force to be reckoned with on the Irish scene. Generating a major buzz in the UK, the success of her acclaimed single 'Love Me Better' landed her on the cover of Spotify's The New Éire playlist. Tomorrow, August 19, she returns with an intimate new version of 'Love Me Better', which will feature on her upcoming Stripped Back EP.
Damien Dempsey's performance of 'Tupelo Honey' (7pm Irish Standard Time) and Carrie Baxter's performance of 'Out in The Cold Again' (8pm) premiere tonight, August 18, on the Hot Press YouTube channel.
