Damien Dempsey has announced a series of Iveagh Gardens shows for July 11 and 12 2024.
It comes in support of his new album Hold Your Joy, which was rated a 9/10 by Hot Press, who said the musician was “located in a creative space of his own, somewhere between the poles of Shane MacGowan and Bob Marley, Dempsey’s is an original voice, as romantic as the former, as political as the latter in his ‘70s heyday – a voice with which to spark a revolution.”
To celebrate this release, Dempsey was also the cover star of our December issue, which you can find here – or read the full interview here.
Reflecting on the record, Dempsey comments: "Hold your Joy came from a great book I read that really lifted me when I was down in the dumps, the Book of Joy by Douglas Abram’s, he got two wise men together to talk about the importance of trying to stay grateful and joyful, these two men had lived through wars and oppression in their native lands, exile and apartheid , but maintained that you can do far more good for the world and those around you and yourself.

“If you try and stay grateful and joyful through it all, the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu were the two wise men, everyone on earth needs to read this book, or hear it."
Most recently, Dempsey was announced as the headliner for the 10 year anniversary edition of Rock Against Homelessness, in aid of Focus Ireland, on February 7 at 3Olympia Theatre.
He is also playing a string of six sold out Vicar Street gigs all throughout the week, with special guests IMLÉ today and tomorrow.
