Acclaimed dance duo reunite in Dublin and give their second home a night to remember...
Having gone their separate ways to release a solo album each, UK dance duo dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip reunited this year to produce a fourth album together; Repent Replenish Repeat. Tonight sees the pair head to what's fast becoming their second Dublin home; the Workman's Club, to showcase their tasty new wares.
And it's as engaging a show as ever, kicking off with RRR's opener, 'Stunner', a dark and gritty reflection on a failed relationship. But they mix it up throughout the night, balancing the set nicely with hits past and present; the ever-charming Pip pausing to ask, "Would it be ok if we played another new one?".
Highlights include 'Get Better' and 'Five Minutes' (from 2010's The Logic Of Chance), and the excellent 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' from 2008 debut, Angles. Pip also dips into his solo venture, Distraction Pieces, hitting us with its edgy opener 'Inrodiction', a track that proved he was well able to go it alone ('You see a mousetrap, I see free cheese and a fucking challenge').
As ever, the impressively-bearded rapper is an absolutely enigmatic showman, and his natural, cheeky chappy banter endears this crowd far more than his musical partner's slightly more off-the-wall exclamations.
Another dark taster from the new album - 'You Will See Me' proves he's definitely in contemplative mood these days. ('You barely even made my spine bend, just skimmed through some of the interesting bits, then skipped to the end'). Achy-breaky heart or not, it's a fantastic, high-energy show tonight. Make it your business to see these buachaillí next time they're in town.
